A Village Burnt Overnight: Tears, Loss and Survival in Dhamangaon Blaze

I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. Man murdered over property dispute at Sakkardara

In cold blooded incident, a middle aged man was stabbed to death near Shitala Mata Temple on Umrer Road on Saturday night. The murder sparked violent reaction as deceased's relatives indulged in arson. The mob frenzy then forced accused to turn themselves in to police, to avoid beaten to death. Cops used cane charge in the area to law and order. Infact, cops had to resort to cane charge to bring the situation under control.

The accused are identified as Arifff Baksh Mehbub Baksh (25), a resident of Shoukat Alik Square, Ganjipeth, and Jakir Baksh Mehbub Baksh (35), a resident of Mahendra Nagar, Auliya Nagar, Teka. Police said that victim Naushad Alam Khan (42) was a resident of Ganjipeth area and was running a garage at Hasanbag area. He recently diversified into transport business and constructed an office near the garage. As the spot was on prime location the accused were also eyeing the property, on which Naushad had allegedly encroached upon.

Naushad and the accused duo were at logged head over the piece of land and frequent fights broke out between them on the matter in the past. In fact on first day of new year, a major brawl was reported between the two parties.

On Saturday, Naushad and his friend Shahagaji alias Kesar Ahmed Khan (52) arrived near Shitala Mata Temple as part of settlement meeting with the accused duo. They were waiting for their one more friend at the spot. Suddenly, Ariff and Jakir reached the spot and war of words ensued between the two sides. A scuffle to broke out and the accused duo stabbed Naushad with sharp edged weapons. In a fit of rage, the two also smashed a heavy stone on Naushad's head before the two escaped from the spot.

After getting information about the murder, relatives of Naushad gathered in large numbers and ransacked offices of Baksh brothers and set ablaze two vehicles parked before their office. The angry mob also attacked the residence of accused but they were saved as they were away in hiding. Staff of city police including quick response team (QRT) rushed to the spot and tamed the mob.

The accused thereafter surrendered themselves at Sakkardara police station on Sunday. Sakkardara police have registered a case under sections 302, 506 (B) and 34 of Indian Penal Code.
