The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Persistent foggy conditions in Northern India affected services of more than 50 to and fro trains to New Delhi and parts of Eastern India, including premier services like Rajdhani Express. The trains were running late by three hours behind schedule. Kamakhya Express service was cancelled as the pair train was running several hours late.
Train No. 12724 New Delhi-Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh Express and 12616 New Delhi-Chennai Grand Trunk Express were the worst affected trains as they were reaching more than 10 hours late at Nagpur.
A senior railway official said that the impact of fog is most severe on trains moving through New Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR). This has made journey to Delhi a rigorous one for the passengers. Almost all the trains between New Delhi and Chennai were running late on Monday. The impact will continue till the fog cover thins out.
Train No. 12723 Hyderabad-New Delhi Andhra Pradesh Express and 12723 Patna-Banglore Express were running around seven hours behind their schedule.
Train No. 12622 New Delhi-Chennai Tamil Nadu Express, 12722 H. Nizamuddin-Vishakhapattanam Dakshin Express were five hours late. 14260 Varanasi-Rameshvaram Express, 22694 Bangalore-H. Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express were late by three hours.
