By Dheeraj Fartode Shocking allegations of misconduct have emerged against a police officer in Nagpur City Police. The officer is accused of abusive and degrading behaviour, particularly targeting accused in Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Sources claim that the senior officer arrives at the police station and calls the accused into a separate room, where the officer not only hurls abuse at the accused but also spits at their face. Later, the officer allegedly kicks the accused in the private parts. In some incidents, when a couple approached a police station in Nagpur to file a complaint following a domestic dispute, the police sent a proposal for preventive action to the officer. However, instead of handling the matter professionally, the officer allegedly made the man sit down, then kicked him in the private parts and leave him in pain and humiliation. After three long years, the District administration has finally decided to set up fast track court at New Administrative building to expeditiously decide MIHAN land acquisition award enhancement cases. The administration has cancelled proposal for setting up court at Hingna and/or at MADC administrative building in MIHAN.
District Collector Saurabh Rao while confirming the development said that the administration had identified 6,000 sq ft space at new administrative building. Initially the administration had identified two spots including MIHAAN building and Hingna. However the lawyers and District Court administration was not too keen to move outside municipal limits. Infact, location of MIHAN court became point of discontent between lawyers and authorities as they felt that it would be practically inconvenient to travel such a long distance from district and high court. The lawyers had urged administration to search for a land near court area. There was 6,000 sq ft vacant space at new Administrative building and same has been approved during a meeting held some time back, informed District Collector Saurabh Rao.
Divisional Commissioner, PWD officers, Court officers, and other stakeholders were present at the meeting.
The administration had also allotted Rs 2 crore to Public Works Department (PWD) for furnishing of the court room. PWD has prepared a lay-out and sent it to court building committee for its approval. The committee has suggested some changes in the plan and after re-working the same was re-submitted to the committee. “We are only waiting for approval and work would be completed within two months after approval,” said the collector.
As the land for fast track court was not allotted for three hours, cases dealing with MIHAN land acquisition could not be resolved. MLA Chandrashekhar Bawankule has raised the issue, by way of a point of propriety during winter session. Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan had assured the state legislative assembly that the government would make alternative land available for setting up of a fast track court for dealing with MIHAN land acquisition dispute cases on July 17, the MLA mentioned in the point of propriety. More than 1500 cases have been filed seeking enhancement of land award passed in MIHAN related cases.
