The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. SNDL employees damaging properties of SNDL office |

Furious former employees of Spanco Nagpur Discom Limited (SNDL) ransacked the company’s head office in Civil Lines on Friday afternoon, demanding continuation of their employment. Later, the company stated that issues raised by employees fell under purview of Spanco BPO Services Limited.
According to Sadar Police, around 10 persons arrived at SNDL office on 4th floor of Narang Tower in Civil Lines area. Initially, they raised slogans in front of the office. Agitators urged SNDL officers to arrange a meeting with SNDL’s Human Resources Manager Sunil Sadar. When they came to know that the officer was absent, they started ransacking the office, and damaged office property including computers, furniture, attendance punching machines. Some agitators closed down shutter of the office and fled from the spot.
According to agitators, SNDL had interviewed around 700 youths for the post of Meter Reader and appointed 70 of them. These 70 got appointment letter on August 13 but the company removed all on November 23 without any reason. On December 17, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Vikas Kumbhare asked SNDL to reappoint the employees within 48 hours.
Public Relation Officer of SNDL Anup Pathak stated in a press release that preliminary estimation of damage to SNDL office property was to the tune of Rs 2 lakh. He further added that Spanco BPO Services, Mumbai, had established its facility at Nagpur for experimenting GPRS-based photo meter reading for SNDL, Nagpur. It recruited people on job that was temporary. Later, Spanco BPO Services Limited wound up the facility and paid all dues to employees.
SNDL that the accused included Sudhir Amardas Jugel, Sudhir Istaru Alone, Ninad Kothe, Nikhil Rambhau Vaidya, Sandesh Dewaji Waghmare, Atul Ghukase and Shashikant Chavan, all former employees of Spanco BPO Services Limited. Based on SNDL’s complaint, Sadar Police registered a case and started investigations into the matter, said Police Inspector of Sadar police station Rajratan Bansod.
