The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. India Against Corruption (IAC), which had attracted huge turnout last year at RBI square during Anna’s agitation, could enthuse a very few during the launch of it’s political wing ‘Aam Admi Party (AAP).’ Only a handful of youngsters bothered to attend the programme organised to launch AAP in city and as against the targetted 25 full-timers, the party could convince only 10 youths to become political activists on full-time basis. Due to such lukewarm response, even all office-bearers could not be named for city unit on Monday. A two-day District summit and election progarmme for district unit was organised by the party at Saikrupa hall.

Addressing a press conference, member of national executives Mayank Gandhi stated that party was declaring list seven executive members along with convenor Devendra Wankhede, Secretary Rajesh Puglia and Treasurer Girish Nandgaonkar as it was in the process to enrol more members. The party had announced 50 per cent reservation for women in every layer. He further assured that entire team would be in place by January 8, 2013.
Gandhi also cleared party’s stand on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and said that Swayamsevak can join the party but, they would not act as office bearers as the party does not believe in Hindu Nationalism of RSS.
Discussing party’s stand on separate Vidarbha state, Gandhi stated, the party has no doubt about administrative efficiency of smaller state but, AAP will require sometime to clarify their stand about separate Vidarbha state. Gandhi also criticised the VIP culture and large number of police force deployed to secure only a few important political leaders and claimed that hence even national capital is not secure.
