Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. Crime branch sleuths on Sunday busted a gang of thieves involved in robbing an elderly woman- Shashikala Jaiswal, in Sonegaon to the tune of Rs 15 lakh including gold and cash.
Accused have been identified as Vishal Madanlal Ramteke (22), Samyak Dhnyaneshwar Gajbhiye (26), Vikas alias Vickey Mohan Rahangadhale (26), Rajesh Itwari Shahu (23), and one juvenile delinquent.
Police said that accused Vickey was driver with Jaiswal and had left job five moths ago. They got the clue when Rana Pratap Nagar police reported that said Vickey was caught by them in a vehicle theft. Crime branch conducted a raid at the residence of Vickey and nabbed him. Police said that the accused spilled the beans during interrogation and admitted about his involvement in the robbery which occurred on December 17 at Sonegaon.
It is learnt that Vickey with other four culprits had made plan to rob Shashikala Jaiswal. Three youths opened the door and entered the house. As the elderly lady was all alone at the residence, they pushed her and barged inside the bedroom where valuable were kept. Wasting no time the youths put a sticker on her mouth and tied her hands with white coloured strips. Jaiswal was frightened and couldn’t resist as the robbers threatened her with dire consequences and put her on knife-point. They had forcibly snatched keys from her and fled with 25 tola gold ornaments and Rs 4 lakh cash.
The arrest was done under the guidance of senior PI Madhav Giri. API Kadam, Anup Shahu, Rajesh Thakur, Dharmendra Sarode, Mangesh Deshmukh, Pramod Thakur and others participated in the action.
