Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. What remained was a blackened debris all around - almost nothing to suggest a home once stood there. Nikesh earns his living as an agricultural labourer, like many in the village. Booty worth Rs 5 lakhs was stolen by tricksters abroad Chennai-Jaipur Express on Saturday. The three passengers, all women were deceived by gang of four who pocketed the ornaments and cash under guise of helping them. The complainant Anju Bisani (41), Chennai, was travelling in the train and was to detrain at Katol. She was travelling with her sister, Vibha Chandak and they were in B-2 bogie.
The theft as per the FIR occurred between Kalmeshwar and Katol when the sisters duo and their cousin, Neetu Bhutada, were planning to get down at next station. Neetu had boarded the train at Nagpur. Around four youth came forward and helped them arrange their luggage. The three sisters went to home and while checking the luggage found their ornaments missing, and then realised the trick played by helpful quartet.
The four had managed to cordon of the three in a way that they could not notice their luggage. The youth opened the luggage and removed necklace, gold bangles, ear rings, pearl necklace, pendant, cash of Rs. 10,000 in a red purse. A chain of thefts has occurred abroad trains and Government Railway Police (GRP) is grappling with the sudden increase in these incidents.
