Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . Burglars struck at the residence of mother-in-law of EGS Minister Nitin Raut. The theft was reported by Kamlabai Sakhre at whose house the thieves stole gold ornaments and other valuables collectively worth Rs 36,000. The incident was reported from Panchpaoli police station in wee hours of Thursday. In her complaint, Sakhre (65), a resident of Tukdoji Nagar, said that she had taken tablet for blood pressure and left the door open for her son Subodh. Subodh came home late in night and door remain opened. Grabbing the opportunity the intruders gained entered in house and walk away with gold ornaments and valuables. Police have registered a case under sec. 380 of IPC and have started investigation.
