It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Kalamna police on Tuesday nabbed a gang of robbers and seized sharp edged weapons and stolen valuables worth Rs 1.15 lakh from their possession. Interestingly, the team leader Eknath, married three months ago and spent lavishly on his marriage party and purchased many costly goods for his newly wed wife. But his party has been spoiled by the cops who smelled foul when a man of modest means like Eknath spent money quite liberally and on a tip-off, the cops rounded him and his partners in crime.
Accused are identified as Kalya Kansarat Nirmalkar (20), a resident of Sivani village in Madhya Pradesh, Manoj Mukesh Yadav (20), a resident of Khawasa village in Madhya Pradesh and Eknath Kashinath Kohale (24), a resident of Kalamna area.
A senior officer of Kalamna police station said that trio attempted many robberies in Kalamna, Nandanvan and Yashodhara Nagar police stations areas. 60-year-old person was stabbed and looted by the trio at Kalamna Naka no 4 on March 6. Arrest was done under the guidance of Police Inspector Sampat Lambat while staff comprising API Lambat, PSI Jagdev, Arvind Mohod, Vinayak Patil, Santish Thakur were made arrest.
