Four ADG-rank officials deputed to sensitive police ranges

IN A quick action following communal riots in Amravati, the Maharashtra Police headquarters deputed its four experienced Additional Director General (ADG) rank officials in sensitive police ranges and cities across the State to maintain communal harmony. The police ranges are usually headed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) rank official. The ADG rank is one step above the rank of IGP. A top police official said that the decision was taken by the Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjay Pandey after a brief interaction with top-ranked police officials and Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil. The officials believed that the ADG rank officials would use their expertise of policing in maintaining communal harmony in the sensitive areas, sources said. NLU study finds direct link between city’s temperature and murders

A STUDY conducted by Nagpur Law University (NLU) has shown declining trend in murder cases in the city in the last two decades. Interestingly, the study has found direct relation between murder cases and temperature. In cases reported from 2001 to 2020, the months of May, June and October have seen highest murders while the winter months of December and January have reported lowest murders. The NLU conducted the micro analysis of body offences in the Second Capital on the request of Nagpur city police. The study revealed that in last 20 years, murder cases have shown declining trend in the city. As compared to 980 murders reported from 2001 to 2010, the city registered 901 cases from 2011 to 2020. It is worth mentioning here that Nagpur has witnessed 79 murders till October 21 this year. Based on the data and micro analysis, the study has also projected that the year 2023 would witness around 75 murders in city. CP’s notification on Ganga-Jamuna closure challenged in HC as PIL

THE ‘permanent closure of prostitution in Ganga-Jamuna’ notification issued by Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar was challenged before the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court, on Tuesday. The court directed the writ petition to be registered as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and allowed the petitioner to make necessary amendments. The petitioner Mukesh Shahu, through his counsels Adv Chandrashekhar Sakhare and Adv Priti Phadake, challenged the notification of Nagpur Police issued under Section 7(1) (b) of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (PITA). The notification declared various religious premises, schools and offices in the red-light area as ‘public places’ and banned prostitution within 200 metres of such places. The petition said that the notification violated the fundamental rights guaranteed under Articles 14, 19 of the Constitution of India. Arifical Intelligence equipped cameras to count devotees coming to Deekshabhoomi

Deekshabhoomi Nagpur Digital cameras equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) have been installed at the entry and exit points of Stupa (sanctum sanctorum) at Deekshabhoomi for Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Din bandoabst that will count the devotees visited the Stupa, said Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar. This is the first time in the history of Nagpur police that the AI equipped cameras would be used for monitoring of bandobast. Interacting with newspersons, CP Kumar said that the cameras were procured from Mumbai. “The cameras were widely used for traffic management when I was serving in Mumbai police. While planning the bandoabst of Deekshabhoomi, it came to my mind to use AI equipped cameras,” the CP said. Heavy police bandobast for Navratri festival

During the Navratri festival, Dhammachakra Pravartan Din and Ravan Dahah, the police would step up their vigil and remain extra alert from Thursday. Nagpur City Police have drawn out a bandobast plan to implement Covid protocol during the festivity as per the guidelines issued by the State government. UP ATS arrest a doctor from Yavatmal district under anti-conversion law

On 10-08-21 Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh police arrested a doctor from Pusad town of Yavatmal district in connectin with a case registered at Gomti Nagar police station under anti-conversion law. It may be mentioned that three persons were arrested by UP ATS from Nagpur and Gadchiroli on July 17 in the same case. The accused person was identified as Dr. Faraz Shah Karamat Shah (27), a resident of Vasant Nagar, Pusad. A police official informed that Faraz was working with Shah Hospital at Pusad with his relatives after completing MBBS course from Government Medical College Akola in 2012. As per the records of Yavatmal police, Faraz was not a member of any organisation. The UP ATS had arrested some persons last month in Delhi and had claimed that a nation-wide racket of religious conversions was busted.
