During the Navratri festival, Dhammachakra Pravartan Din and Ravan Dahah, the police would step up their vigil and remain extra alert from Thursday. Nagpur City Police have drawn out a bandobast plan to implement Covid protocol during the festivity as per the guidelines issued by the State government. A total of 436 Durga Mandals have applied for permission to the police.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar informed ‘The Hitavada’ that to ensure law and order during festival time with Covid appropriate behaviour, more than 3,000 policemen, 300 officers, a company of SRPF, 800 homeguards would be deployed in the city. Children below 18 years of age and people above 65 years will not be allowed in the temples and pandals, he said, adding that vaccination certificates are mandatory for Darshan for the age-group of 19 to 64.
CP Amitesh Kumar, Joint CP Aswati Dorje and Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Magar have planned the security arrangements in the city and district. During Navratri festival, the largest number of devotees take Darshan at Mahalakshmi Devi Temple in Koradi, Agyaram Devi Temple in Ganeshpet and Bhavani Mata Temple in Pardi. “Security has been beefed up at these places and 500 police personnel will be deployed at the Koradi temple area. Devotees will be allowed to enter the temple as per the guidelines and rules of the State government,” the CP said. The 'Jagran' during Navratri festival will be allowed only after studying the situation, the CP said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police and Assistant Commissioner of Police of Special Branch, and their team also would be keeping a hawk’s eye on the situation in the city to ensure that the celebrations are trouble-free. At sensitive places, police pickets have been deployed and police patrolling intensified in the city and leaves of all police personnel are cancelled. Traffic Control Branch would have to play a critical role during the 10-day fest for regulating the movement of vehicles for avoiding jams in the thoroughfares. Special care would be taken to ensure that noise levels do not exceed and time of 10 pm is adhered to strictly in the city.
