Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Car turns turtle in overtaking bid, leaves four injured at Mate square

Four youngsters sustained injuries as speeding car they were travelling in hit road-divider, took a 10-feet high jump into air, and turned turtle when overtaking bid by car driver went wrong near Mate Square on Saturday late night. The injured youngsters fled the spot leaving the damaged car behind. According to eye-witnesses, a Hyundai i-20 car (MH-40/KR-9002) was coming from Rana Pratap Nagar Square with speed exceeding 100 km/hr. The driver tried to overtake an Indica car. The driver tried to over-take Indica through a small gap between road-divider and Indica. However, during the risky move, the driver lost balance and hit road-divider. In panic, driver applied brakes immediately. As a result, the i-20 car jumped 10-feet high into air, turned turtle, and skid before coming to a stop at a distance of 50-feet from the spot where it had hit road-divider. One had frequently heard the famous dialogue in our Bollywood films, “Kanun ke hath bahut lambe hote hain” (criminals can be tracked down from where ever they are hiding). Now criminals who were having an easy option of striking at will and then escaping to other states can soon be tracked down if they happen to trip and commit crime at other places. The Maharashtra Police is readying Crime and Criminal Tracking Network system (CCTNS), part of ambitious national criminal network. State has been chosen for implementation of pilot project and same is being supervised by State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) stated its head, Spl. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sanjay Verma. Prakash Pohare arrested at Akola

Prakash Pohare arrived in the court. Editor-in-chief of Marathi daily ‘Deshonnati’ Prakash Pohare was arrested by the crime branch of Nagpur Rural police on Tuesday morning from his Akola farmhouse. Cops then produced Pohare before court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kalmeshwar, where the court remanded him to two days police custody. The cops arrived at Kalmeshwar police station around at 2 pm. His close relatives including former MLAs Harshawardhan Deshmukh, Ashok Dhawad also arrived at Kalmeshwar police station. Cops then registered a entry of Pohare’s arrest in station diary and took him for medical check-up. As many as 665 passengers lost their lives in the past three years in Nagpur Division of Central Railway. Between 2009 and 2011 the casualties increased by 31.5 per cent, if the data compiled by Railway Protection Force (850 rail kms). MP trader's body exhumed from Vasantrao Naik Slum

A police posse stands guard at the spot  where a youth, Rohit Jain, was buried  by the goons at the slum. Sitabuldi police on Wednesday exhumed body of a businessman, Rohit Jain, who was allegedly murdered and then buried at Vasantrao Naik Slum.
