The special action will be carried out from December 22 to December 31 under Operation U-Turn , Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal announced at a press conference on Monday. Every year, a large number of people visit pubs , bars , hotels , and party spots on December 31 which lead to a rise in drunk driving cases. By Dheeraj Fartode DCP Lohit Matani The Operation U-Turn campaign launched by the Nagpur City Police to reduce road accidents and fatalities has shown encouraging results. The city has recorded a 26 percent reduction in road accident deaths in 2025 so far, helping save 90 lives, said Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal on Monday.In 2024, Nagpur city reported 340 deaths due to road accidents. This figure has come down to 252 deaths in 2025 till December 21. Due to this improvement, Nagpur has secured the first position in the state in reducing road accident fatalities.Comparatively, Palghar district recorded a 20 percent reduction in accident deaths, while Amravati city achieved a 17 percent reduction. In Pune, the police managed to save 55 lives, and in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, accident deaths were reduced by 18. The state police have started using Crime-OS , a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. IGP Chandra Kishore Mina By Dheeraj Fartode Chandra Kishore Mina, an IPS officer of the 2006 batch, has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service . Singh has held several key positions in Nagpur, including Superintendent of Police (SP) for Nagpur Rural, SP CID Nagpur, and Vidarbha region and is currently posted as Special IGP (Admin) for the State Police. Singh’s first posting was as ASP in Bhamragad, Gadchiroli, in 2008, after which she became ASP in Gadchiroli. Tushar D Sakhare, an officer serving as Senior Commandant of the CISF Unit at Amritsar Airport, was also honoured with the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Sakhare, a resident of Nagpur, joined the CISF in 2005 and has had a distinguished career, serving in 12 different CISF units across India. He cracked down on coal mafias in West Bengal, where he conducted thousands of raids and recovered a major amounts of stolen coal. Sakhare has represented the CISF and India in two United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, where his service earned him two UN Medals. He has also been recognized with several awards, including the Director General Commendation Disc in 2015, for his dedication and excellence.
