Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. COVID-19: 482 ‘isolation coaches’ of Central Railways lying idle

A TOTAL of 482 coaches of Central Railways are lying idle after being converted into modified isolation wards for COVID-19 patients. The coaches are unused as the State Government has not yet requested for deployment of the coaches, stated a top-rank railway official. According to information, Central Railways has modified 482 coaches for COVID-19 patients as per the directives of Ministry of Railways. Of them, 60 quarantine coaches with capacity of 16 persons in each were prepared by Central Railways Nagpur Division while 120 were prepared by Central Railways Carriage workshop, Matunga, Mumbai.  Responding to Right to Information (RTI) query filed by Ajay Bose, Central Railways stated that Rs 77,678/- were spent for modification of each coach. City Police to form CIU squads for continuous monitoring of criminals

WITH an aim to get actionable inputs about active criminals, Nagpur Police has decided to form Criminal Intelligence Units (CIU) at all police stations that will continuously follow the criminals to pin them down before committing crime. The idea of new unit is the brainchild of Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr. Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay. The CP has issued directives to senior rank officials for identifying police personnel with skills of gathering Intelligence inputs.  Explaining the concept, Dr. Upadhyay informed ‘The Hitavada’ that Detection Branch (DB) at police stations and Crime Branch are special units mainly tasked for investigation of crime cases. THE Union Home Ministry has laid down clear rules to be implemented by Enforcement Agencies to allow smooth transportation of essential goods during lockdwon period. Notwithstanding the orders, the agencies have launched crackdown against those who are exempted from the list of prohibited items. Observing this gross violation of rules of Union Home Ministry, Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Highway Police Vinay Korgaonkar has come down heavily on Police Unit Commanders and said that essential goods movement was disturbed due to the action causing shortage of essential items in the country. MAHARASHTRA police on Friday issued an advisory to all police units to issue travel passes to needy persons. The decision has come as a major relief to thousands of citizens who are stranded at places in the State after enforcement of lockdown from March 24. The order also directed police officials not to stop goods vehicles and ensure their smooth movement. Special Inspector General of Police (Spl IGP), Milind Bharambe, issued the order after observing surge in demand for on-line passes at the office of Director General of Police (DGP). “Lockdown has been enforced in the State to contain the spread of novel coronavirus and movement of people has been barred during the lockdown period. Therefore, many persons are contacting office of DGP Maharashtra to get emergency passes for travel. It was observed that demand for such passes is increasing rapidly.
