Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Army exam paper leaked, racket busted at Nagpur

As a part of sweeping raids across the state, a joint team of Thane and Nagpur Crime Branch swooped at Maurya Sabhagriha in Parvati Nagar under Ajni Police Station area on Sunday early morning and busted a racket involved in leaking of Army Recruitment examination papers. More than 10 accused have been arrested from the hall along with aspiring candidates. The students came to get copy of the papers,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Crime Ranjan Kumar Sharma. Sadar police books SICOM's ex-Regional Manager in fraud case

An ex-Regional Manager with State Industrial and Investment Corporation of Maharashtra (SICOM) was booked by Sadar police for accepting bribe of Rs. 15.50 lakh for sanctioning loan to a city builder. The builder had applied for loan of Rs. 10 crore in year 2014. The loan case was rejected and hence the builder asked for return of the money but the ex-RM washed his hands of entire episode prompting latter to approach police. According to police, Director of Trimurti Infra Pvt Ltd Sachin Bhimrao Pathre (29), a resident of Mata Nagar, Godhni, had filed a loan case with SICOM on September 1, 2014. He met then Regional Manager, Milind Vasudeorao Ingle (56), wherein latter allegedly demanded Rs 5.50 lakh as bribe to sanction the case. Pathre paid Rs 5.5 lakh in two installments and also videographed the moment when he had handed over Rs 2.5 lakh in spy camera.  In December 2015, Pathre learnt that about rejection by SICOM office. Dean of IGGMCH Dr Minakshi Gajbhiye go absconding

Dr Meenakshi Gajbhiye (Wahane), Dean, Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), on Wednesday went underground even as she knocked on court doors seeking pre-arrest bail in the bribery case. Caught in a bribe case after she allegedly demanded Rs. 15,000 to clear a bill for supplying medicines, Dr Gajbhiye failed to appear before Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today as was directed. Meanwhile, Vijay Mishra who accepted the bribe on behalf of Dr Gajbhiye was put behind bars on Tuesday. Since the ACB trap occurred in late Monday afternoon, Dr Gajbhiye was just booked and directed to appear on Tuesday for joining investigation. Since it was evening by the time ACB completed all the formalities on Monday, the Dean could not be arrested as Supreme Court guidelines stipulated that no woman be arrested beyond sunset. Youth attacked at Wardha Road

A youth was seriously injured when his friends attacked him over old rivalry at Wardha road in Dhantoli area on Saturday.   According to police, Prafulla Rajesh Dhondare (21), a resident of Narendra Nagar, his friend Rohan Bhute (21), were going to home at 3.30 pm. While crossing Wardha road, accused Akash alias Michael, Amol Parad and Nitin Parad, all are residents of Raju Nagar approached the duos and slapped Rohan. He got angered and caught hold collar of Akash. Then, Amol and Nitin hits him with bricks and stones. Prafulla and Rohan sustained injuries in the attack. Double murder at Khaparkheda

A double murder came to fore during investigation of finding of unidentified bodies of a youth and a married woman. Khaparkheda police have arrested husband of the deceased women in this connection. However exact reason behind the murder could not be ascertained.  According to information, bodies of a youth was found at Walni village while the body of the woman was discovered at Parseoni on Friday. After establishing identity of the deceased as John alias Kamlesh Singh Thakur and Sonali Amarraj Meshram, the cops learnt about relationship between John and Sonali.  Sonali was married to Amarraj Meshram five years ago and was staying at Walni while John was living in rented accommodation of Sonali’s uncle at Gittikhadan. IGMCH Dean Dr. Meenakshi Wahane arrested for demanding bribe

In a high profile catch, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday netted Dean of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Mayo Hospital for demanding bribe from a supplier of medicines. Dean Dr Meenakshi Gajbhiye (Wahane) had allegedly asked for gratification of Rs. 15,000 to clear the pending bill of Rs. 2.94 lakh. On Monday, sleuths of ACB laid a trap at IGGMC and Dr Wahane allegedly asked for bribe and later directed the complainant to hand over the money to canteen contractor. As soon as the mess contractor, Vijay Mishra (44), a resident of Babulkheda, accepted the bribe amount (the notes were marked with special ink) waiting ACB team pounced on him. The bribe money was seized and Mishra was detained. As soon as the trap was declared successful, separate teams of ACB moved into Dharampeth residence of Dean Dr Wahane. Shots fired at follower of Asaram bapu

Anti-social elements fired shots at the car of 29-year-old man, a follower of Asaram Bapu. The accused attempted to murder the man due to dispute regarding Asaram Bapu's Ashram, said Gittikhadan police.  According to police, victim Rahul Raju Joshi (29), a resident of Apsara Garment, Bharat Mata Square, Itwari is the follower of Asaram Bapu. Board of trustees of the Ashram has been divided over issues regarding the running of Ashram. The trouble started when Rahul Joshi objected to misappropriation of funds and property of Asaram. Rahul was thrashed and warned to stay away from the Ashram's affairs. On Saturday, Rahul Joshi was heading towards home in his car at 9.30 pm.  A group of anti-social elements came behind in a car and fired bullets from a revolver with the intention of killing Joshi.
