Uproar in council over demand of resignation of Minister Abdul Sattar over land issue

The proceedings at Legislative Council were stalled by Opposition benches demanding Agriculture Minister Abdul Sattar’s resignation over an illegal land regularisation order passed by him when he was a minister in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe adjourned the house for the day due to the uproar.

The High Court stayed Sattar’s order of regularising 37 acres of gairan land (grazing land) in Washim district for private use. Taking cue from the High Court’s order, Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Ambadas Danve raised the issue under Rule 289 of Council. He said, “Sattar illegally alloted the land when he was the Minister of State for Revenue in the previous Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government.” The allotment took place on June 17, 2022 overruling orders of District Court and District Collector, stated Danve. Sattar illegally allotted plots, sand contracts, Agricultural Produce Market Committee at Ratnagiri, Aurangabad, Nagpur overruling orders of District Court, he alleged. Danve demanded that Minister Sattar should be immediately sacked for the illegal allotment.

Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Anil Parab demanded that the house should discuss the matter on priority. “Many illegal land allotment cases are coming to light since the Shinde-Fadnavis government came to power,” he said. The illegal land allotment took place just before Eknath Shinde’s rebelled in the party. As per the orders of the Supreme Court, public utility land cannot be given to any person. However, Sattar did it by overruling orders of Washim District Court, he said and demanded resignation of Sattar.Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator Eknath Khadse alleged massive corruption on parts of the minter and said that orders were given to the officials of Agriculture department for collection of Rs 15 crore. Showing coupons of Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 in the house, Khadse claimed that the government staffers have been given targets to sell these coupons of Cultural show to agriculture stores across the State. Khadse demanded an inquiry into the matter alleging that the Minister of SHinde-Fadnavis government indulged in illegal collection.

As the opposition started slogans for resignation of minister Sattar, Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe adjourned the house for a day. The Council will begin on Tuesday at 11 am.

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha
