After the chaos in the afternoon, DCP Headquarters Ashwini Patil and other officers were seen at Morris College T-point late in the evening ordering additional lunch for 1,500 police personnel for Tuesday.
It may be mentioned that around 7,000 police personnel have been deployed for the bandoabst of the winter session from Saturday. Of which, around 3,000 policemen came from various police units including Mumbai and Pune. The Nagpur police Commissionerate has been given a responsibility of bandobast of winter session and also maintaining food and shelter for the police.
Last week, senior officers had promised in a press conference that every police personnel would get food and contracts allotted to private parties for the same . They had also claimed that food would be arranged from the restaturents in case of shortage. However, the promises were not actually executed on the ground as many cops did not get food.
A mob of around 100 police personnel on-duty gathered at the food stall near Vidhan Bhavan and engaged in the wordy duel with senior officers over the issue. The cops complained that they haven't got food despite purchasing food coupons.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar said that the drivers and guards engaged in the transportation of food items were having lunch in the afternoon. As a result, the delivery of the food items was delayed. “Instructions have been issued to concerned officers so that such an incident would not happen again,” he said.
