28 firearms, 862 NDPS Cases, Rs 7.7 Crore; Seized: Rural Police crack down hard in 2025

With the seizure of 28 illegal fire-arms and 57 cartridges, registration of 4,712 liquor cases, and a sharp rise to 862 NDPS cases , the Nagpur Rural Police delivered one of their toughest crackdowns on crime in 2025. Along with this, preventive action was taken against 2,178 accused involved in illegal activities.  Large-scale operations against crime and unlawful businesses led to seizures worth Rs 7.7 crore by the police during the year. Preventive action against  1,496  According to official records, preventive action under Section 126 of the BNSS increased sharply from 569 cases in 2024 to 1,496 cases in 2025 which marked a 163 per cent rise. Preventive actions under Section 129 BNSS also increased from 1,644 cases to 1,965 cases. Violations of preventive bonds rose from 85 cases in 2024 to 201 cases in 2025, and fines recovered through courts jumped from Rs 11,600 to Rs 23,66,200. Internship of 6 MBBS students of GMC&H suspended for ragging junior

Six interns of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Nagpur were barred from internship after they allegedly found ragging a junior student. The students also asked to vacate the college hospital, officials said.

An official of GMC&H said that the six MBBS students are undergoing internships at the college. They ragged a first year MBBS student in April this year  who secretly filmed a video of the incident and mailed the complaint to the Central Anti-Ragging Committee.

The Committee immediately directed the GMC&H administration to initiate action against the students. Dean of GMC&H Dr Raj Gajbhiye issued orders suspending internship of the students and also directed them to vacate the college hostel. Sources claimed that the victim was allegedly mentally and physically tortured by the seniors. The incident occurred six months ago. However, the formal complaint was lodged by the victim recently. The reason behind lodging the complaint after six months was not ascertained so far.

The Anti-Ragging Committee of the college also complained to Ajni police and requested to register an offence against the students. Senior Police Inspector Nitin Phatangare of Ajni police station informed ‘ that he requested the college administration to send a detailed report about the ragging. On PI Phatangare’s request, the college administration is likely to send a detailed report and an official of the college as complainant in the case on Thursday.

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State.
