Rs 229 crore SCADA system to ensure uninterrupted power supply in city

WITH an aim to provide uninterrupted power supply to Nagpurians, Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system will be set up in Nagpur that would automatically control the power supply to 13.90 lakh consumers of MSEDCL.

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Rs 229 crore has been proposed by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) to set up SCADA in Nagpur under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) of Rs 39,602 crore. A top official of MSEDCL Nagpur informed ‘The Hitavada’ that MSEDCL Nagpur was supplying power to its consumers through 16 sub-divisions and 476 feeders (power supply lines).

The SCADA is a computerised system that controls power supply to sub-stations and feeders. After interconnecting all sub-stations and feeders through the system, if power supply to one area trips due to any fault, the system would automatically connect power to the affected area from another functioning sub-station. The action would be done within a fraction of second, the official claimed.

The SCADA which is also known as Distribution Management System (DMS) will also show real-time consumption of power at various feeders and simplify monitoring for the MSEDCL officials. It will also have Global Positioning System (GPS) connectivity to identify location of the fault. The system will not only strengthen the power supply but also give much awaited relief of uninterrupted power supply to citizens especially during the scorching summer, the official claimed. Quick response vehicles will also be stationed at Sub-Divisions of MSEDCL under the system to immediately repair the fault of distribution lines, he added.

It may be mentioned here that to meet the increasing future power demand, the MSEDCL needs to strengthen the existing distribution infrastructure. As a result, Rs 14,266 crore will be spent on the distribution system under the RDSS. A whopping 377 new sub-stations will be set up at various places across the State. Additional transformers will be installed at 299 sub-stations. By increasing the capacity of 292 sub-stations, about 29,893 new distribution transformers will be installed in Maharashtra. Also 21,691 circuit km of high pressure overhead channel and 4,171 circuit km of high transmission underground channel will be laid in the State to provide 24x7 uninterrupted power supply.

IGP Prasanna : The man who stopped Obama’s convoy

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha

It is situated at the confluence of five rivers -- Wainganga, Kanhan, Aam, Kolari and Murza. Just around a decade ago the river bank housing Ambhora used to see a flux of tourists from all over the State. However, the banks were submerged in water after the construction of Gosikhurd dam which led to rise in water levels. Since then, tourist flow at Ambhora has also declined. However, now with the construction of the new bridge tourists will get a chance see the scenic backwaters across the river bed which is
