Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Man in 'one-sided love' murders father of teeage girl

A man was murdered by a 20-year-old youth, who was said to be in a one-sided love affair with the former’s teenage daughter in Gittikhadan area on Sunday. Angry over the murder, the locals gheroed the police station and demanded justice to the victim. 

The police have arrested Balram Manoj Pandey (20), a resident of Surendragarh, for killing Narayanprasad Gayaprasad Dwivedi (35), a resident of Surendragarh. According to police, Narayan was operating a food stall at Nagpur railway station and living in a rented accomodation of Pandey family for past 10 years

Narayan's 16-year-old daughter studies in class 10th. Balaram used to follow the girl on her way to school for the past one year. He was even flirting with her everyday. The girl narrated the incident to her mother Anu who promptly alerted Narayan. As a result, Narayan scolded Balaram and complained to his parents about his behaviour. Balram's father Manoj reportedly assured Narayan that Balram would not do any such wrong thing with his daughter in future. Therefore, Narayan did not file a police complaint against him. However, Balram was not ready to mend his ways and continue to harass the teenage girl, police said. 

The Pandey family recently asked Narayan to vacate the place. On July 28, Narayan vacated Pandey's house and rented another room in Surendragarh. When the Dwivedi family was leaving the place, Balaram threatened Narayan that he would kill him if he vacated the house. Narayan reprimanded him fiercely and vacated the house. 

Narayan was going to the railway station on his motorcycle on Sunday at 8.30 am. About 200 meters away from Gittikhadan police station, Balaram stopped Narayan and stabbed him repeatedly with a sharp-edged weapon. Narayan collapsed on the ground in the pool of blood. Balram fled the spot with the weapon, police said. 

Gittikhadan police reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported. The body was sent for post-mortem after performing Panchnama. Shortly after the incident, the Gittikhadan police arrested Balram from the Gorewada complex. 

A police official said that Narayan was originally from Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. A large number of locals gathered at the police station and demanded justice for Balram. A case under Sections 302, 506 (2), 354, 354 (d) of Indian Penal Code read with Section 12 of POCSO Act was registered by the police. The accused will be produced in the court on Monday.

DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The list includes names of officers belonging to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) batches between 1988 and 1995, who were promoted to the IPS cadre. The officers are S V Jadhav, B G
