  Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. Holi : Throwing water-filled balloons or indecent behaviour will land you in jail

Strong police bandobast of around 3,000 police personnel including two companies of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) would be deployed on the occasion of Holi and Shab-e-Barat on Thursday and Friday. The focus of the police would be on preventing unruly activities, including applying colours forcibly, indecent behaviour with women and illegal consumption of liquor.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar said that the police deployment would start from Thursday morning. As many as 90 checking points have been identified by the police for fixed police deployment. A total of 10 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) rank officers, 10 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), 40 Police Inspectors, 208 APIs/PSIs, 1843 police personnel, 190 women police personnel, two companies of State Reserve Police Force, special teams of Crime Branch and Special Branch (SB) will be deployed during the two-day long bandobast, he said. “Damini squad will be deployed for the safety of women and to keep check on anti-socials,” the CP said.
The CP warned that spraying colour water or throw water-filled balloons at strangers or pedestrians would attract stringent police action. Local police teams have been ordered to intensify patrolling in the sensitive areas. Bajeria in Ganeshpeth, Tandapeth in Pachpaoli, Thakkargram, Lashkaribagh, Rameshwari in Ajni, Babulkheda, Ramtek Nagar, Rambagh in Imamwada, Jattarodi, Kapasi in Kalamana, Tajbag in Sakkardara and Hasanbag in Nandanvan are some of the sensitive areas of the city.

150 criminals to go jail on holi

The city police have identified history-sheeters who used to commit crime on the occasion of holi. Around 150 such anti-socials are being booked by the police under Section 151 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). These history-sheeters will be sent to jail as part of preventive measures.

Too many complaints in peace committee meeting

A meeting of the Central Peace Committee was held at Vanamati hall on Wednesday. Hundreds of local peace committee members, corporators and social and political activists were present in the meeting. These vigilant citizens complain to the senior police officers about illegal sale and consumption of liquor and problems of traffic jams in their area.
Residents of Ajni, Gittikhadan and Ambazari police stations complained about illegal sale of liquor while residents of Ajni and Gittikhadan were not happy over mismanagement of traffic. CP Amitesh Kumar, Joint CP Aswati Dorje, Addl CP Navinchandra Reddy and other senior police officers were present in the meeting. DCP Traffic Sarang Awad compared the programme.

DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers.
