Nagpur police seals Ganja Jamuna, posse of 100 policemen deployed

On 12 - 08 - 2021

DCP (Zone III) Lohit Matani instructing police staff before the action.

Notorious red-light area Ganga Jamuna in East Nagpur was sealed by the City police on Wednesday. Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar imposed Section 144 Code of Criminal Procedure in the area after which movement of other persons would be restricted here. Layers of barricades were laid out at both ends of 12 lanes of the area and a posse of 100 police personnel deployed round the clock for the bandobast.

The police are also using drones to keep en eagle eye on the internal movement in the lanes of the area. CP Amitesh Kumar said that the action was initiated after receiving a number of complaints by the residents. The prostitution rackets have spoiled the social atmosphere so much that even the relatives of citizens refrained from coming to their homes. Even young son/daughter of families living near the area do not get married easily, the CP said, adding that young girls are being forced in the prostitution.
After sealing the lanes, the women police personnel would conduct searches in the houses to rescue minor girls. Despite having two temples, a dargah, a mosque and three schools, the flesh trade has been going on here for a long time. More than 150 sex rackets are operating in the rooms of different buildings and around 500 to 700 women are active in the business. Most of these women are from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa, said the CP.
Similarly, the police will request the State Excise Department to cancel licenses of four liquor shops including a beer bar operating here for the last several years. Before initiating the action, the CP visited the place in plain clothes and observed gross violation of Covid protocol by the women. The police have secretly done video recording of the area and found that women are making obscene gestures to the people passing from the adjacent roads.

Illegal structures to be demolished

The CP further said that the buildings in the area are owned by some Rajasthan residents and they have deputed some touts for collection of rents. Some women are running brothel houses, the police investigation revealed. Illegal construction works have been done in old buildings here to run the flesh trade. Whenever police conduct raids, minor girls are forced to hide in the small rooms. There are some rooms without ventilation where no one can even breathe. Therefore, it has become necessary to curb illegal activities. “We have sealed all the lanes and no outsider will be able to enter here,” the CP warned, adding that the city police would also write a letter to Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari to demolish illegal structures.  He also said that many buildings are in dilapidated condition. Due to such buildings, major accidents can happen at any time.

IGP Prasanna : The man who stopped Obama’s convoy

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha

It is situated at the confluence of five rivers -- Wainganga, Kanhan, Aam, Kolari and Murza. Just around a decade ago the river bank housing Ambhora used to see a flux of tourists from all over the State. However, the banks were submerged in water after the construction of Gosikhurd dam which led to rise in water levels. Since then, tourist flow at Ambhora has also declined. However, now with the construction of the new bridge tourists will get a chance see the scenic backwaters across the river bed which is
