Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Two murders with four hours rocks Nagpur

Two murders within a span of four hours rocked the city on Friday. While a notorious goon was brutally killed in Kotwali, an aged-woman found dead with her throat slit in MIDC area.
In Kotwali, Shanu alias Shahnawaz Khan (19) was killed by three assailants over old-rivalry when he was returning home on an Activa at around 10.30 am. The police have arrested Saurabh Ghate (28), Pravin Ghate (35) and Raja Khan (28) on the murder charges. Saurabh is accused in an attempt to murder case.
Sr Police Inspector Dhnyaneshwar Bhosale informed that Khan was accused in two attempt to murder cases and externed from city limits last month. In 2019, Khan and his four accomplices had attempted to kill Pravin Ghate. Since then, Ghate brothers were trying to eliminate him.
Khan had gone somewhere on an Activa moped in the morning hours. When the accused got the tip-off, they came near Ram Cooler square with sharp-edged weapons. After spotting Khan on the two-wheeler, the goons ran towards him and blocked the vehicle. They slit the throat of Khan with the weapon and fled the spot. Profusely bleeding Khan somehow managed to reach his home in Gadikhana. His parents rushed him to private hospital where he breathed his last.
DCP Zone III Lohit Matani and Staff of Kotwali police station rushed to the spot and inspected the crime scene. The accused were arrested with three hours from nearby area. An offence under Sections 302 and 34 of Indian Penal Code was registered by Kotwali police.
In yet another murder case, a 65-year-old woman was found dead at her house with her throat slit in Saptak Nagar of MIDC police station on Friday afternoon.
DCP (Zone I) Vivek Masal informed that a housemaid noticed Vijaya Shiwalkar (64) lying in the pool of blood in her house in Saptak Nagar. A retired cook from SRPF, the woman was living alone at her two-room house. Her son is constable in SRPF while two daughters are married and living in Pachpaoli area.
The housemaid had left the house on Thursday afternoon and came on Friday only to see the dead body. “We are investigating the case at all possible angles,” DCP Masal said. The police denied angle of robbery as the almirah was found intact.  A case of murder was registered by MIDC police. Further investigation is on.

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
