Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Rape accused escape from hospital, arrested

An under-trial prisoner escaped while being treated for tuberculosis from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H)  late Monday night. He was accused in a gang-rape case reported in year 2017. Within eight hours of his escape, Pardi police nabbed the accused from Bhavani Nagar area and handed him over to Imambada police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone IV Dr. Akshay Shinde informed ‘The Hitavada’ that Krishna Dongre (23), a resident of Rana Pratap Nagar area, is accused in a gang-rape case registered in Sitabuldi police station in year 2017. Dongre and Jeetu Manglani, both working as auto-rickshaw drivers, had raped a 16-year-old girl who had escaped from the government observation home. The girl was gang-raped twice in Khamla and Jaripatka area on April 20 and 22 in 2017.
A total of 10 accused were arrested by the police in this case and Dongre was named as prime-accused. Since then, he has been cooling heels behind bars in the Central Jail. He was admitted to the Tuberculosis Ward of GMC&H on May 4.
On Monday at 9.45 pm, Dongre was going to attend nature’s call with NPC Nilkanth Iwnate. He gave a jerk to NPC Iwnate and fled away after pushing him down. The cop alerted the police control room immediately. Staff of Imambada police station and DCP Zone IV Dr Shinde rushed to the spot. All police stations were alerted about the escape of the accused.
A team of Pardi police led by PSI Sharad Shipne received a tip-off about Dongre and arrested him from Bhavani Nagar area where he was hiding at the house of hsi relative. An offence under Section 224 of Indian Penal Code was registered at Imambada police station.
It may be mentioned that Shijo Chandrar Nadar, a MCOCA accused, also escaped from TB Ward of GMC on May 16 last year. He was later arrested from the national capital by Delhi police.

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
