Nagpur police on Monday carried out a massive drive against drug peddlers by raiding 86 premises across the city and seizing drugs worth over Rs 20 lakh in one go. A press release informed that a simultaneous raid was carried out at 86 premises of habitual drug peddlers across the city.
A total of 130 gm Mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 13 lakh, 133 gm of Charas worth Rs. 7.8 lakh and 2.5 kg Ganja worth Rs. 37500/- was seized during the action. Around 20 persons were arrested by the police during the action. The police were busy in registering offences under Arms Act, Gambling and Prohibition Act late in the night. This crackdown against the drug peddlers would be further intensified in the days to come, the press release claimed. Sources informed that the top brass of City police got the information about the drug rackets operating in the city.
An intensive intelligence gathering exercise was carried out by the City Police Chief Amitesh Kumar. Based on the information, a plan was discussed and implemented on Monday. Special teams were formed for the action. Sources claimed that the team members were given information about their target at the last minutes to keep the plan secret. The drug peddlers and criminals were taken aback after the sudden police raid. The police conducted searches at the premises of the accused during the blanket raids. Under the guidance of CP Amiesh Kumar and Additional Commissioner of Police Sunil Phulari, the raids were conducted by City police staff.
