Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. History-sheeter brutally murdered in Sonegaon area of Nagpur

A history-sheeter was brutally murdered by four unidentified assailants on Jaitala Road under the jurisdiction of Sonegaon police station on Monday evening. The accused first bashed up the goon and when he escaped from their clutches, they chased and stabbed him to death with sharp-weapons. The history-sheeter was released from the jail on bail just three-days ago.

The deceased was identified as Nilesh Rajesh Naidu (31), a resident of Khamla area. The police have arrested Mayur Sherkar, Govind Dongre and Sagar Bagga for killing Naidu. Three accused Suchit Chahande, Ashish Bandekar and Vishal Gondane are still absconding.
A police official said that Sherkar owns a mobile phone shop - M S Collection - in Indraprastha Nagar. He was also accused in an attempt to murder case. Naidu on Monday afternoon came to the shop and accused Sherkar for allowing bail of Nikhil Kharat and Gullu Maliye, accused in Shera Chavan murder case. He then asked Sherkar to surrender his gold chain and a mobile phone. This irked Sherkhar and a quarrel broke out between them. Naidu and his friend Pratik Sahare slapped Sherkhar in the shop and fled the spot. Sherkar then called his friends and narrated the incident. The friends agreed with Sherkar for killing Naidu and they launched searches for him.

They spotted Naidu when he was consuming liquor with Sahare in the open ground near London street complex on Khamla-Jaitala road at 6 pm. The youths gheraoed Naidu and Sahare and attacked them. They hit Prateek with a rod and fractured his leg. Prateek somehow managed to flee the spot. Soon after the assailants caught hold of Naidu and started bashing him up. When Naidu escaped from the clutches of the accused, they chased him and stabbed him with sharp-weapons. One of them also hit a boulder on the face of profusely bleeding Nilesh. Later, the assailants fled the spot. Pratik alerted the police about the incident.
Staff of Sonegaon police station rushed to the spot. Top rank officials including Addl CP South Region Dilip Zalke and DCP Zone I Nurool Hasan also took stock of the situation. After Panchnama, Naidu’s body was sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. Naidu was accused in robbery, murder, attempt to murder and theft cases. He was active in vehicle theft and burglary. He was recently arrested under preventive action and sent to jail. He got bail on Friday.An offence under Sections 302 and 34 of Indian Penal Code was registered by Sonegaon police. Further investigation is on.

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
