A Village Burnt Overnight: Tears, Loss and Survival in Dhamangaon Blaze

  Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. ACB caught Head Clerk of Deputy Dir (Edu) while accepting bribe of Rs 50,000

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Nagpur on Tuesday arrested Head Clerk attached with Deputy Director (Eduction) red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 50,000/-. 
The accused clerk was identified as Upendra Sharadchandra Shrivastav (52). 
A press release of ACB informed that the complainant is a resident of Antargaon Bujurg village in Korpana tehsil of Chandrapur district and working as peon at Pranjali High School at Nandpa village. The school was unaided when the complainant joined the school. The school received 20 per cent grant from July 1, 2016. As per procedure, the complainant had filled a form and forwarded to the office of Deputy Director (Education) Nagpur after getting approval of Principal in December 2018. When his form was not cleared by the office, the complainant came at Nagpur and requested Shrivastav to expedite the process. Shrivastav demanded Rs 50,000/- for clearing the form. 
The complainant immediately approached the ACB office and lodged a complaint. The ACB officials laid a trap accordingly and arrested Shrivastav while accepting the bribe at Balaji Nagar Chowk late Tuesday night. An offence under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at Hudkeshwar police station. 
Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (SP) ACB Rashmi Nandedkar, Addl SP Rajesh Duddhalwar, the arrest was made by Police Inspectors Sanjivani Thorat, Dinesh Labde and staff including Prabhakar Bale, Amar Ganvir, Bhagwat Wankhede, Nisha Umredkar, Driver Rajesh Bansod and others.
