It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Two persons were killed while a woman was seriously injured when a wall of a neighbouring house collapsed on their house following incessant rain on early Saturday morning. The incident occurred at Borujwada village in Saoner tehsil. Condition of the woman is reportedly critical, said police.
The deceased have been identified as Suresh Ramkrishna Karamkar (38) and Atul Shivram Uikey (17) while the injured person is - Urmila Uikey (35).
According to police, Atul, Suresh and Urmila were living in rented accommodation at Borujwada village at the house of Rajendra Nimbalkar.
A wall of neighbouring Natthu Thote’s house was collapsed and fell on the Nimbalkar’s house when the victims were in slumber at 5 am. The victim’s house had metal roofing sheet. As the wall collapsed on the roof the house, the metal sheets were broken and debris of the wall fell on the victims.
Before they could understand anything, the trios were trapped under the debris of wall. Thote family and other villagers rushed to the spot to rescue them. The villagers had cleared the wall debris and rescued the injured persons. They were rushed to the hospital where Atul and Suresh were declared brought dead. Urmila was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after primary treatment. Her condition is reportedly critical. Saoner police have registered a case of accidental death and started investigation.
