Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. In shocking incident, an Innova Crysta SUV of BJP leader Sandip Joshi was stolen from outside of his house in Laxmi Nagar on Saturday morning. “A youth posing as car cleaner vanished with the SUV,” informed Sandip Joshi.
According to Joshi, two car including the SUV (MH-49/7732) were parked outside of his house at Plot No. R-6, Laxmi Nagar on Saturday. A regular car cleaner - Mangesh - came to his house to clean the vehicles at 7 am. Joshi’s wife asked Mangesh to wash another car as she was going to school of her children in the vehicle. Mangesh then went to clean vehicles other residents in the area.
Posing as Mangesh’s friend a youth came to Joshi’s house and ask for key of the SUV for washing purpose. Without suspecting for a second, Joshi had simply put the key in his hand. When Joshi had closed the door, the youth vanished from the spot with the vehicle.
The theft came to fore when Joshi had not find the SUV in parking. He dialed phone number of Mangesh and inquired about the SUV. When Mangesh replied him that he had never sent anyone for washing of vehicle, Joshi realised the theft and called Bajaj Nagar Police.
The Police staff scanned the CCTV footage and shared the visuals with staff for identification of the accused. According to Joshi, the vehicle was registered in the name of Shravan Kukreja. On the basis of complaint given by Joshi’s PA Neeraj Dontulwar, Bajaj Nagar police have registered the case under Sections 379 of Indian Penal Code. A police officer informed that they have launched searches to arrest the accused.
