The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. A youth killed his drunkard father for creating nuisance in the village at Junona Fuke village of Narkhed tehsil.
Narkhed police have arrested accused Sachin Sukhdeo Raut (20), for killing his father Sukhdeo Sahadeo Raut (50), both residents of Junona Fuke village. The youth and friend had gone to market of the village where they consumed liquor on Sunday evening. While walking towards home, Sachin noticed his father creating nuisance on the street in inebriated condition. He asked the father that why had he consumed liquor. The father got angered over the son and slapped him. In a fit of rage, Sachin picked a wooden rod from roadside and hit him in the head. Sukhdeo collapsed on the road in pool of blood. Sachin fled the spot without providing medical treatment to the father. However, villagers noticed Sukhdeo lying in the pool of blood. They called Sachin and asked him to take his father to home.
With the help of the friend, Sachin took Sukhdeo to home where he succumbed to the injuries. In an attempt to save himself from police action, Sachin told the police that his father had suffered injuries in an accident. The police had performed post-mortem and handed-over the body to Raut family.
After two-days, the police got a tip-off from the villagers about quarrel between Sachin and his father Sukhdeo. The police took Sachin in their custody for interrogation. He confessed for the crime during interrogation. Narkhed police have booked the accused under Section 302 and 201 of Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is on.
