Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. Tehsil police have arrested a prime accused absconding in the murder case of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Dilip Ram from Mominpura area of city on Wednesday. The TMC leader was shot dead on at Bandel station in Hooghly district of West Bengal on June 29 this year.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohd Akbar Mohd Israil (33), a resident of Dingalhat, Boropara, West Bengal.
Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Swpnil Wagh of Tehsil police station informed that Akbar had arranged killers for the murder. Accused in the case Shakuntala Yadav alias Samudri Yadav, who is owner of a lodge, had rivarly with Dilip Ram over some issues. She had given the contract for killing of Dilip Ram to Akbar at Rs three lakh. Akbar had arranged two shooters who shot at Dilip Ram. Akbar was hiding at relative’s place at Nalsaab Chowk in Mominpura for last six to seven days, PSI Wagh said. The police have picked him from the house and informed West Bengal police about the arrest.
