It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. A youth was brutally murdered by his friend for not returning borrowed money worth Rs 2,000 in MIDC police station area. The body was hid under bricks near SRPF compound in Jaitala area.
The accused has been identified as Ajinkya Rajesh Telgote (19), a resident of Ramai Ambedkar Nagar, Jaitala while deceased is - Roshan Rajesh Nagrale (19), a resident of Gayatri Nagar. According to police, Ajinkya and Roshan were close friends. Ajinkya had lent Rs 2,000 to Roshan two months ago. However, Roshan failed to return the money due to his financial condition. This irked Ajinkya and he was used to pick quarrel with him over the issue. The duo picked a fight on Monday at 11 pm in which Ajinkya attacked Roshan with an iron rod. He was hit multiple times with the road by Ajinkya. He collapsed on the ground due to severe head injuries and succumbed to the injuries on the spot due to heavy blood loss.
Ajinkya had hidden the body in bushes and covered it with bricks.
The incident came to fore when residents noticed foul smell emanating from the bushes. Staff of MIDC police station rushed to the spot after being informed by residents and discovered the body. The body was sent for post-mortem. The police have registered the case under Sections 302 and 201 of Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is on.
