AI Joins the Force: Maharashtra Police Deploys ‘Crime-OS’ for Smarter Investigations

It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Man dies after motorcycle skids on road

A man was died after his motorcycle skidded on the Teka Naka road in Pachpaoli area. 
The deceased was identified as Harish Shamalal Dahel (30), a resident of NIT Quarter B/71, Nari Road, Jaripatka. According to police, Dahel was passing through Teka Naka road on Monday at 1 pm when his motorcycle skidded. He sustained severe head injuries in the mishap. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries on Thursday at 12.21 am. Pachpaoli police have registered a case of accidental death. 

Boy drown in nullah 

A 19-year-old boy drowned in a nullah during immersion of a Ganesh idol in New Kamptee police station area on Thursday. 
The deceased h  been identified as Kunal Haribhau Umredkar, a resident of Labh Laxmi Nagar, Kalamna Naka Number 4. According to police, the incident occurred at 11.30 am when Kuhal had gone for immersion of a Ganesh idol at Kalamna-Kamptee road nullah. 
The New Kamptee police have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is on. 

Two commits suicide in Dighori and New Subhedar lay-out 

Two persons have committed suicide in separate incidents at Dighori and New Subhedar lay-out under the jurisdiction of Hudkeshwar police. 
According to police, Sanjay Iswhar Choudhary (40), a resident of Plot No. 69, Adarsh Pragati Colony, Dighori committed suicide by hanging himself from ceiling fan. On the basis of complaint given by Chandrashekhar Choudhary, Hudkeshwar police have registered a case of accidental death. 
In another case, Chanda Ramkrishna Shinde (52) ended her life by hanging herself to an iron handle on Thursday. According to police, Chanda, a resident of Plot No. 369, New Subhedar lay-out, committed suicide at around 3 pm. On the basis of complaint given by Nilesh Mohite, the police have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is on.

DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
