The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Sensation prevailed in Pawanshakti Nagar of Nandanvan Police Station when a semi-decomposed body of a criminal recovered from a well. Deceased Likesh Vijay Sathawne (27) was stabbed several times and his head was smashed with boulders by the three ‘supari killers’ hired by a woman to revenge insult. Likesh was missing since April 9, said police.
The accused have been identified as Gopal alias Guddu Bisen, Gopal alias Guddu Bisen and Prafulla Gedam. The cop also searching for a woman -- Jaya Sharma -- who had hired the accused for the murder. A senior police officer said that the murder is the fall out of old rivalry between the woman and deceased. “Likesh, who was working for the women, had slapped the women over some issues last year after which the woman decided to eliminate him,” the officer said. The woman approached the accused and finalised ‘murder deal’ in one lakh rupees.
On the evening of April 9, Likesh went out leaving his wallet and mobile phone at home. When Likesh did not returned home, his family members approached the police station on April 10 and lodged a missing complaint.
Acting on tip-off, the cops picked up Gopal from his home on Sunday. During interrogation, Gopal confessed for the crime and told the police that he reveled murder spot and names of accomplices. The accused and Likesh had gone for dinner on the night of April 9. They offered liquor to Likesh and had dinner at a Dhaba. While returning to home on motorcycle, the accused attempted to strangulate Likesh, however Likesh overpowered them. Soon after and contract killer stabbed Likesh with sharp-edged weapon and smashed his head with boulders and thrown the body into the well.
A police officer said that the accused have revealed the name of the woman who had given them rupees one lakh for eliminating Likesh. Likesh was also involved in several body offences. He was accused in murder case in year 2011.
