The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. A girl candidate thought of a novel way to pass the police recruitment process of Government Railway Police (GRP)! Falling a little short on height, the girl applied ‘Mehandi’ on hairs to meet the desired height of 155 cms during the selection process at Nagpur.
The ‘noval way’ came to fore at GRP Nagpur Headquarters during recruitment drive when an onduty lady constable find hairs of the little different. After checking properly, she noticed that the girl had applied ‘Mehandi’ to meet desired height of the selection process.
Superintendent of Police (SP) GRP, Nagpur Sahebrao Patil informed the reporters on Wednesday during a press conference. It may be mentioned that a youth had donned a hair wig during recruitment drive of Nashik police last week.
SP Patil further said that physical test of 5,788 candidates concluded on Tuesday and written test will be conducted on April 15. Those, who will pass the written test, will be called for the medical test and then merit list will be announced, the SP informed.
On the issue of Rail Roko agitation announced by the Vidarbha Jan-Andolan Samiti, the SP said that the GRP is ready to counter the agitation. “We have activated informers and fixed potions have been identified where force will be deployed in large number,” he said.
