28 firearms, 862 NDPS Cases, Rs 7.7 Crore; Seized: Rural Police crack down hard in 2025

With the seizure of 28 illegal fire-arms and 57 cartridges, registration of 4,712 liquor cases, and a sharp rise to 862 NDPS cases , the Nagpur Rural Police delivered one of their toughest crackdowns on crime in 2025. Along with this, preventive action was taken against 2,178 accused involved in illegal activities.  Large-scale operations against crime and unlawful businesses led to seizures worth Rs 7.7 crore by the police during the year. Preventive action against  1,496  According to official records, preventive action under Section 126 of the BNSS increased sharply from 569 cases in 2024 to 1,496 cases in 2025 which marked a 163 per cent rise. Preventive actions under Section 129 BNSS also increased from 1,644 cases to 1,965 cases. Violations of preventive bonds rose from 85 cases in 2024 to 201 cases in 2025, and fines recovered through courts jumped from Rs 11,600 to Rs 23,66,200. Girl applies ‘Mehandi’ to pass police recruitment drive

A girl candidate thought of a novel way to pass the police recruitment process of Government Railway Police (GRP)! Falling a little short on height, the girl applied ‘Mehandi’ on hairs to meet the desired height of 155 cms during the selection process at Nagpur.

The ‘noval way’ came to fore at GRP Nagpur Headquarters during recruitment drive when an onduty lady constable find hairs of the little different. After checking properly, she noticed that the girl had applied ‘Mehandi’ to meet desired height of the selection process. 

Superintendent of Police (SP) GRP, Nagpur Sahebrao Patil informed the reporters on Wednesday during a press conference. It may be mentioned that a youth had donned a hair wig during recruitment drive of Nashik police last week. 

SP Patil further said that physical test of 5,788 candidates concluded on Tuesday and written test will be conducted on April 15. Those, who will pass the written test, will be called for the medical test and then merit list will be announced, the SP informed. 
On the issue of Rail Roko agitation announced by the Vidarbha Jan-Andolan Samiti, the SP said that the GRP is ready to counter the agitation. “We have activated informers and fixed potions have been identified where force will be deployed in large number,” he said. Additional teams of Quick Response Team (QRT) will also be deployed during the agitation. Additional SP Uttam Rathod, Police Inspector Abhay Panhekar were present in the press conference.

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State.
