It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Jaripatka police have booked a couple for attacking and threatening an on-duty traffic police constable at Indora square on Wednesday afternoon. However, the couple alleged that the constable behaved indecently with them and assaulted them. Taking cognizance of the incident, Commissioner of Police Dr. K. Venkatesham ordered inquiry in the case.
According to police version, on-duty police constable Babusingh Shobharam Kachhwah stopped a couple for not wearing helmet at 1 pm. When the constable asked for documents of the motorcycle, the couple had shown RC book and motor riding license. Soon after the constable took out Challan book and was writing a Challan for not wearing helmet. The couple suddenly picked up quarrel with the constable and abused the constable. They also caught collar of the constable and assaulted him. The woman bites the constable’s hand. On the basis of complaint given by the constable, the Jaripatka police have booked the couple under Sections 186, 294, 332, 353, 506 (a), 34 of IPC read with sub-sections 129 and 177 of MVA.
In the contrary version, the couple alleged misbehavior by the constable. The couple was going to hospital along with their child. The constable assaulted the couple and beaten the man ruthlessly. CP Dr. Venkatesham had taken cognizance of the incident and ordered inquiry in the incident.
