A 19-MONTH-OLD boy, who had fallen into an open borewell in Ekta Nagar slums, Bhandewadi in Kalamna, was rescued by police with the assistance of local residents on Thursday evening.
Around 6.45 pm, the boy, Prathamesh Deepak Gajbhiye, a resident of Ekta Nagar, slipped at a depth of 15 feet inside the borewell while playing near it. Some residents noticed the incident and raised an alarm. Some residents made futile efforts to pull the boy out. An alert resident informed Police Control Room about the incident. Three Beat Marshals of Kalamna Police Station, who were patrolling the streets, rushed to the spot after receiving information on their walkie talkies. The Beat Marshals dispersed the crowd gathered near the borewell. They cordoned off the area near the borewell to ensure that the boy was not hurt if any boulder rolled into the borewell.
Senior Inspector Sunil Bonde, in-charge of Kalamna Police Station and his staff arrived. After assessing the overall situation, Inspector Bonde, with the assistance Corporator Purshottam Hazare and former Corporator Devendra Meher, quickly arranged an earth moving machine.
