The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Yashodara Nagar Police have arrested four persons in firing case. The accused have been produced in the court and the court ordered four days custody. The accused are identified as Mohd Ehfaz (20), Mohd Faizan alias Faizul (21), Firoz Khan alias Sonu (23) and Sheikh Shehjad alias Pappu, all are residents of Sangharsh Nagar, Mehbubpura.
According to police, the accused had gone to attend a programme at Sangharsh Nagar. Mohd Rashid alias Golu (22), a resident of Sangharsh Nagar had passed a comment of “Fokat Me khana Aa Gyaye” (came here for free food). The comment angered Ehfaz and brawl was broken out between Rashid and the fours. When Mohd Asif Ansari (25), a residnet of Sangharsh Nagar and brother of Mohd Rashid had gone to cool down the furious youngsters, one of them fired a shot in air at around 10.30 pm. The sound was heard in the area and hundreds of onlookers were gathered. A police officer of Yashodhara Nagar Police Station informed that the accused used country made pistol for the fire. The accused have no criminal background. The police have registered the case under Sections 307 and 34 of Indian Penal Code read with sub-sections 3+25 and 27 of Arms Act.
