The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Two persons died in separate mishaps under the jurisdiction of Yashodhara Nagar and Nandanvan Police Stations.
In first accident, unidentified vehicles knocked dead a pedestrian near Naka No. 2. According to police, Shekhar Vibhudatta Mishra (36), a resident of Plot No. 8/B, Shiv Nagar, Bhilgaon was walking on the road when the vehicle hits at 9.40 pm. Injured Mishra was admitted at hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. Yashodhara Nagar police have registered the case under Sections 279 and 304 (a) of IPC.
In yet another accident, a speeding autorikshaw knocked a morning walker at Dighori in Nandanvan Police Station area.
According to police, the accident occurred at 6.15 am when Chintaman Maroti Malke (63), a resident of Plot No. 76, Shivsundar Nagar, Dighori was on morning walk. The speeding autorikshaw came behind and hits Malke. Profusely bleeding Malke was admitted at GMCH where he succumbed to the injuries. Nandanvan Police have registered the case under Sections 279, 338 and 304 (a) of IPC read with sub-sections 134 and 177 of MVA. Further investigation is on.
