It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Two persons died in separate mishaps under the jurisdiction of Yashodhara Nagar and Nandanvan Police Stations.
In first accident, unidentified vehicles knocked dead a pedestrian near Naka No. 2. According to police, Shekhar Vibhudatta Mishra (36), a resident of Plot No. 8/B, Shiv Nagar, Bhilgaon was walking on the road when the vehicle hits at 9.40 pm. Injured Mishra was admitted at hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. Yashodhara Nagar police have registered the case under Sections 279 and 304 (a) of IPC.
In yet another accident, a speeding autorikshaw knocked a morning walker at Dighori in Nandanvan Police Station area.
According to police, the accident occurred at 6.15 am when Chintaman Maroti Malke (63), a resident of Plot No. 76, Shivsundar Nagar, Dighori was on morning walk. The speeding autorikshaw came behind and hits Malke. Profusely bleeding Malke was admitted at GMCH where he succumbed to the injuries. Nandanvan Police have registered the case under Sections 279, 338 and 304 (a) of IPC read with sub-sections 134 and 177 of MVA. Further investigation is on.
