The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Superintendent of Police (SP) Shailesh Balkawade on Saturday warned villages of Ramtek tehsil of stern action for carrying Trishul on Nagarjuna Tekdi on Mahashivratri.
Addressing a meeting of Peace Committee at Tehsil Office, SP Balkawade said that the police would not allow Trishul at the Tekdi where many riots took place since 1998. SDO Ram Joshi informed that the Section 144 of CrPC will be imposed on February 24. Bhadant Arya Nagarjun Sarei Sasai have organised Samta Parishad on same day at Nagarjuna tekdi.
The District police have conducted several meetings for maintaining peace at Nagarjuna Tekdi. Companies of QRT, RCP will be deployed at the venue to prevent unlawful assembly.
Man killed in air compressor blast
IN A freak mishap, a man was killed while another injured after air compressor burst near Jadu Mahal in Ajni Police Station area on Saturday.
According to police, Sharad Raut (35), a resident of Walni village and Ramesh Bangade (42), a resident of Bidipeth were installing the air compressor at their shop during afternoon hours. Ramesh had purchased the compressor from a friend and was installing at his shop with the help of Sharad. Suddenly, the compressor burst during checking. Sharad and Ramesh seriously injured in the mishap. They were admitted at GMCH where Sharad breathed last after three hours. Ajni police have registered the case and started investigation.
