The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Hudkeshwar Police have booked Tribal Development Project Officer, Nagpur and President of Bhandara-based Dnyandeep Bahuddeshiya Shikshan Sanstha in scholorship scam. Both accused admitted a stundent -- Devram Maraskolhe -- in Vivekananda College by forging documents and grabbed his scholoroship worth Rs 22,000. When Maraskolhe learnt about the fraud, he approached the police and registered a complaint.
The accused are identified as Bharat Pokalwar, president of Dnyandeep Bahuddeshiya Shikshan Sanstha, which runs Vivekanand College and Giri Sarode (48), Tribal Development Project Officer, Nagpur.
A senior police officer informed that accused Pokalwar and Sarode shown admission of Deveram Maraskolhe, a resident of Sadak Arjuni village in Vivekananda college and grabbed yearly scholorship issued by the government. The scholorship was credited in the bank account of Pokalwar. After learning about the fraud, Maraskolhe apporched the police and lodged a complaint. Hudkeshwar police have registered the case under Sections 409, 406, 420, 465, 468, 471, 120 (b). Further investigation is on.
