It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Hudkeshwar Police have booked Tribal Development Project Officer, Nagpur and President of Bhandara-based Dnyandeep Bahuddeshiya Shikshan Sanstha in scholorship scam. Both accused admitted a stundent -- Devram Maraskolhe -- in Vivekananda College by forging documents and grabbed his scholoroship worth Rs 22,000. When Maraskolhe learnt about the fraud, he approached the police and registered a complaint.
The accused are identified as Bharat Pokalwar, president of Dnyandeep Bahuddeshiya Shikshan Sanstha, which runs Vivekanand College and Giri Sarode (48), Tribal Development Project Officer, Nagpur.
A senior police officer informed that accused Pokalwar and Sarode shown admission of Deveram Maraskolhe, a resident of Sadak Arjuni village in Vivekananda college and grabbed yearly scholorship issued by the government. The scholorship was credited in the bank account of Pokalwar. After learning about the fraud, Maraskolhe apporched the police and lodged a complaint. Hudkeshwar police have registered the case under Sections 409, 406, 420, 465, 468, 471, 120 (b). Further investigation is on.
