Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. Hudkeshwar Police have booked Tribal Development Project Officer, Nagpur and President of Bhandara-based Dnyandeep Bahuddeshiya Shikshan Sanstha in scholorship scam. Both accused admitted a stundent -- Devram Maraskolhe -- in Vivekananda College by forging documents and grabbed his scholoroship worth Rs 22,000. When Maraskolhe learnt about the fraud, he approached the police and registered a complaint.
The accused are identified as Bharat Pokalwar, president of Dnyandeep Bahuddeshiya Shikshan Sanstha, which runs Vivekanand College and Giri Sarode (48), Tribal Development Project Officer, Nagpur.
A senior police officer informed that accused Pokalwar and Sarode shown admission of Deveram Maraskolhe, a resident of Sadak Arjuni village in Vivekananda college and grabbed yearly scholorship issued by the government. The scholorship was credited in the bank account of Pokalwar. After learning about the fraud, Maraskolhe apporched the police and lodged a complaint. Hudkeshwar police have registered the case under Sections 409, 406, 420, 465, 468, 471, 120 (b). Further investigation is on.
