The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Urging people of Nagpur to rise above caste considerations in the NMC elections, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Friday appealed citizens to caste their vote only for development of city. “Elect our 100 corporators and give us thumping majority,” appealed Gadkari while addressing a rally at Hill Top on Friday.
MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, MLCs Anil Sole, Parinay Fukey, and BJP candidates Sunil Hiranwar, Amar Bagde, Prinita Fukey, Rupa Rai, Amar Bagde, Rutika Masram, Varsha Thakre, Deorao Tijare, Sanjay Bangale and Pankaj Thakre were present on the dais.
Addressing the rally, Gadkari urged the people that raise about caste, religion language consideration in the polls and caste vote only for the development. During his 20 minutes speech Gadkari informed development agenda of the BJP and work did by NMC in last five years.
“The 24x7 water supply scheme is supplying waters across the city and there is no shortage of water in the city,” said Gadkari. Gadkari also informed about ongoing project including -- usage of bio CNG in the buses, construction of cement roads worth Rs 21,000 in the city, construction of sports complex with the help of Sports Authority of India, Symbiosis college, AIIMS, musical fountain at Telangkhedi lake.
He also informed that NIT would construct more than 50,000 houses Pradhanmantri housing for all. The house will have 460 sq. ft. carpet area. All lower income groups and middle-class families can purchase these houses for just Rs 2.5 lakh, said Gadkari.
Nagpur will be transformed into greenest and beautiful city of country in next three years, assured Gakari. Residents from Prabhag No. 13, 14 and 15 attended the rally in large numbers.
