Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. What remained was a blackened debris all around - almost nothing to suggest a home once stood there. Nikesh earns his living as an agricultural labourer, like many in the village. Work is uncertain and depends on the season. Those earrings weren’t just jewellery - they were a small dream, a reward for his hard work,...
Koradi police are in a fix following recovery of a head minus the body at a godown. The incident has triggered sensation in the area after a person out of curiosity peeked into the closed godown and found the head dangling from a rope. The cops are banking upon forensic experts to make headway in the case. At this stage it's not clear whether it is a case of suicide or that of murder, said the police.
A man who had gone to attend the nature’s call near the godown noticed the head attached to an electric wire on Monday. In state of shock, the man fled from the spot and phoned the police. Staff of Koradi police station immediately rushed to the spot and removed the head.
The cops searched for the body of the man in nearby area. After searching for more than two hours, the cops did not find anything related to the head. Some cops discovered two bones in the bushes. The bones were also sent to forensic experts for opinion.
A senior police officer informed that prima-facie it appears to be a case of suicide. The man could have committed suicide before two weeks. He could have entered from broken windows at the building which is lying vacant. The body could be detached from the head due to heavy weight and fell on the ground. There are many stray dogs in the area and body might have been destroyed by the dogs, the officer said further. However, not finding bones or blood stains on the spot have further complicated the theory being advanced by the police. If the body was destroyed by the dogs, then bones should have been scattered nearby. However, the cops found only two bones in the area, near the bushes.
Opinion of the forensic experts will decide further line of investigation in the case. The cops have sent the pictures of the head to all police stations to establish identity of the deceased. Establishing identity can only solve the mystery of the case.
