Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. What remained was a blackened debris all around - almost nothing to suggest a home once stood there. Nikesh earns his living as an agricultural labourer, like many in the village. WITH an aim to spread awareness about martyrs, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is installing busts of martyrs of the force in their schools. A bust of Shaheed Devi Das was installed in Adarsh Saraswati Sadan High School on Friday. A large number of school students, teachers and family members of martyr Devi Das were present during the occasion.
Informing about the initiative, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CRPF, A P Singh said that Director General of CRPF has taken the decision as a mark of respect as well as to motivate the youngsters. “Nation should remember the martyrs who laid their lives while guarding the nation. This is the unique initiative to connect with the masses. It will also inspire young generations to join the forces,” said DIG Singh.
In the series, busts of eight matyrs were installed on Friday at various schools. Busts of Chandrashekhar Sureshrao Kore and martyr Nitin S. Puttewar were installed in their schools at Hinganghat in Wardha district; bust of martyr Hetram Isram Katre was installed at Shaheed Janya Tanya Zila Parishad Vidyalaya, Gondia; bust of Likhan Lal intalled at Rashtriya Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Dongargaon, Gondia; busts of martyr Jyoti Singh Chindhu Nagpure installed at Salekas High School and Kanishtha Mahaividyalay, Salekasa, Gondia. It may be mentioned that Salekasa is known as Naxal belt and CRPF is actively participating in the anti-naxal operations.
Busts of martyr N J Sapate and Ajit Madho Das were installed at Karmavir Vidyalaya, Warora, Dist- Chandrapur and Ashok Samrat High School, Chicpalli vilage of Chandrapur district.
