Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. Khaparkheda police have finally pieced together the sequence in the double murder of a woman and a youth. Accused Amarraj Meshram (27) on Monday admitted to the gory murder and narrated the incident to cops. The suspicion about cosy relations between Meshram's wife, Sonali and the youth, John proved to be the undoing for the two.
According to police, the case is pre-planned cold blooded murder. Sonali was married to Amarraj Meshram five years ago. John alias Kamalsingh Thakur was living in rented accommodation at Sonali’s uncle place in Gittikhadan. Accused Amarraj Meshram learnt about illicit relationship between Sonali and John and he had warned her against it. However, Sonali refused and finally Amarraj decided to teach them a lesson.
On January 9, Amarraj offered drinks to John. After consuming liquor, he took John to Walni area where he smashed a boulder on latter's head and threw body in the canal. On January 10, Amarraj along with Sonali went to Parseoni area on a motorcycle. When Sonali asked for reason, Amarraj again asked her to stop talking with John. However, Sonali again refused and accused Amarraj of having unnecessary doubts. Angry over Sonali’s answer, Amarraj strangulated her. Suspecting Sonali could alive, he cuts her hand's vein.
During investigation cops came to conclusion that Amarraj have murdered John and Sonali. The cops have arrested the accused produced him in the court. The court granted seven days PCR to police.
Police Inspector Mahesh Chate, API Nitinchandra Rajkumar, ASI Namdeo Dhande, Surendra and Kamlesh were made the arrest.
