Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Crime Branch arrest six goons

Crime Branch of City Police have arrested six armed hardcore criminals for threatening to kill a property dealer two days before his marriage over financial transactions and looting cash and gold ornaments collectively from his family members in his house in Hudkeshwar area.


The accused have been identified as Hemant Panjabrao Gawande (40)), a resident of Ganeshpeth, Yuwraj Thunia Mathankar (35), a resident of Shiv Heights, Row House No 7, Beltarodi, Shakti Sanju Manpiya (33), a resident of Pandhrabodi, Ram Nagar, Ashish Ashok Kantode (26), Shivaji Nagar, Mahal, Ravi Ramesh Umathe (30), a resident of Plot No 24, Sai Society, Narendra Nagar, Vishal Milind Wasnik (24), a resident of Vidya Nagar, Prabha Tower, Nandanvan.

According to Police, Sarang Awatankar, who runs a firm -- Jain Builders and Developers -- had a dispute over financial dealings. Gawande was demanding money from Awatankar and had also threatened him of dire consequences. Awatankar married was to get married on Thursday. Close family members and relatives had gathered at his house for ‘Haldi’ programme on Tuesday.

On Tuesday evening,Gawande, Mathankar, Manpiya, Kantode, Umathe, and Wasnik along with their 12-13 accomplices carrying sharp-edged weapons and firearms stormed into Awatankar’s house. Pointing pistols, they threatened to kill Awatankar, They bashedhim up ruthlessly and started demanding money from him. 

The armed intruders locked Awatankar’s family members in a bedroom and started searching the house. They collected cash and gold ornaments belonging to Awatankar and his family members from cabinets and almirahs.

In the meanwhile, Awatankar somehow managed to escape. However, Gawande, Yuvraj Mathankar and some others stayed in the house till 9.30 pm. They also consumed liquor and molested Awatankar’s sister. Awatankar informed the police. When cops arrived, the goons managed to give them a slip.

Following Awatankar’s complaint, Hudkeshwar Police registered an offence under Sections 395, 397, 387, 342, 354, 452, 143, 147, 148, 149 of the Indian Penal Code read with Sections 3+25, 4+25 of the Arms Act and 135 of the Bombay Police Act against the accused. Later, cops nabbed the six accused. Mathankar, Manpiya and others were earlier booked under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. They were later released on bail. Recently these goons had come out on bail while serving the sentence under the stringent MCOCA.

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State.
