Rahul Gandhi, Manish Sisodia detained at RML Hospital in Delhi

  • The Delhi police action triggered political row in political circle

Delhi Police On Wednesday detained and released Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi after he was detained for over an hour while trying to meet the kin of dead ex-serviceman Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal at Delhi's RML Hospital.
Rahul Gandhi at gates of RML hospital at Delhi
"Rahul Gandhi has been detained at Mandir Marg Police Station for 'disruption of duty' after he wasn't allowed to enter RML hospital to meet ex-serviceman Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal's family", said a police officer of Delhi police.
"No politician is allowed in the hospital and they were causing disturbances. Democracy doesn't mean creating obstruction. Leaders must also understand that hospital is not the place to hold any demonstrations," said the officer.
"Family members of Grewal were detained as well as they were contacting political leaders and holding demonstration here," he added.
Gandhi had gone to the hospital to meet the family members of Grewal after he committed suicide on Wednesday at Jantar Mantar over the delay in implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP).
The Delhi police's action triggered political row between BJP, Congress and AAP.  Gandhi was visiting the place after ex-serviceman's suicide over the non-implementation of the OROP.
Rahul Gandhi was stopped close to the gates of the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here when he went to meet the family of the victim Ram Kishan Grewal. He was then detained at the Mandir Marg police station.
However, Rahul Gandhi was released from Mandir Marg Police station (Delhi) after being detained for a while. "I don't have anything to say, police will do what it has to for risk reduction," Union home minister Rajnath Singh said on Rahul Gandhi's detention. Delhi Deputy CM Sisodia was detained outside the hospital.  The Congress and AAP launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the OROP issue.
Rahul wondered whether this is how democracy should work. "This is a particular type of mentality, now, they don't believe in democracy... This is the new India in the making," Rahul told the media after he was stopped at the gates of the RML Hospital in Delhi this afternoon.
"I urge the PM once again: soldiers should not have to struggle to claim what is their due. OROP must be implemented in a meaningful way+ ! My heartfelt condolences to the family of Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal. Extremely sad to learn of his death," he tweeted.
The 70-year-old ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal from Haryana's Bhiwani district ended his life yesterday by consuming poison on the lawns behind a government building in Janpath, the central area of the capital. Grewal, who was a familiar face of OROP agitation, left behind a suicide note, his son said.
Police said he along with three of his companions had come to the city apparently to submit a memorandum to the Defence Ministry over the issue of OROP. However, defence ministry sources said as per records, no request for appointment with Parrikar was made.
Slamming the Prime Minister and BJP on OROP, the Delhi Chief Minister said Modi was "lying" when he said OROP was implemented and termed it as a "major deceit" with the veterans.
"He is lying to the entire country. If it was implemented then why Ram Kishan had to commit suicide? The extent of the deceit of the BJP government over the issue, don't think it has happened before. The army is being deceived and misused for political gains. His martyrdom should not go in vain," the Delhi Chief Minister said.

IGP Prasanna : The man who stopped Obama’s convoy

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. The bridge would be open for traffic in December this year providing a major boost to tourism at Shree Chaitanyeshwar Mahadev temple at Ambhora. It is set to open doors of development for the backward area of Kuhi and Umred tehsil. Ambhora, located 75 km from Nagpur city, is a famous religious and tourist place in Vidarbha. It is situated at the confluence of five rivers -- Wainganga, Kanhan, Aam, Kolari and Murza. Just around a decade ago the river bank housing Ambhora used to see a flux of tourists from all over the State. However, the banks were submerged in water after the construction of Gosikhurd dam which led to rise in water levels. Since then, tourist flow at Ambhora has also declined. However, now with the construction of the new bridge tourists will get a chance see the scenic backwaters across the river bed which is
