Cops arrest TB ward rape case accused

  • Joint team of Imambada Police and Crime branch arrested the accused on Friday evening. The accused is a notorious goon and CCTV footage from a shop near TB ward gave clue about perpetrator of this heinous crime

By Dheeraj Fartode
Tremendous hard work and dedication of joint teams of Imambada Police and Crime Branch on Friday bear fruits and the police have nabbed the culprit -- Sonu Gupta (24) -- in sensational TB Ward rape case in which the accused had sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl on Wednesday night.
Commissioner of Police Shardaprasad Yadav confirmed the information about cracking the case. Another senior rank official said, Gupta, a notorious history-sheeter of the area, brutally abused the girl when she was returning home. The investigation stumbled many a times as the victim, who was shaken and under trauma, was changing her statement continuously. However, the police managed to nab the accused with the help of sketch and CCTV footage procured from a shop situated near the TB Ward entrance gate.
Sources informed that the girl and the accused are seen in the footage and there is a reason to believe that he threatened the girl with dire consequences and forced her to accompany him. The footage has captured the accused seen walking from Medical square and entering the TB Ward at around 9 pm.
It may be mentioned that the police have interrogated around 15 suspects so far. On the basis of inputs received from the victim, the police made a sketch of the accused and posted it on Twitter and Facebook.
The city police formed around 20 special teams consisting of five members each to apprehend the accused responsible for this heinous crime. After receiving some inputs about possible involvement of friend of the victim’s elder sister, the cops tracked down many youngsters living in city and district. Moreover, the police did not spared Facebook friends of the victim’s sister. They were taken to the police station and sternly interrogated by police officers.
It may be mentioned that the girl was returning to her home at 9 pm on Wednesday after attending a Karate class. While walking through isolated area of TB Ward, a moped-borne Gupta approached her and said ‘Hello’. However, the girl ignored him and continued walking. Gupta approached her again and asked her to sit on the moped. The girl refused to do so stating that her father had told her not to take lift from any stranger.
Seeing that the area was isolated, Gupta immediately took out a cloth and tried to cover her face. Perhaps due to chloroform sprayed over the cloth, the hapless girl fell unconscious. When she regained consciousness after two hours, she found herself in an abandoned structure. She was terrified to see the naked youth besides her. The girl immediately fled the spot and somehow reached home. Her parents, who were worried as their daughter had not returned home till 11 pm, bombarded her with questions. Mustering courage, she narrated the incident to her parents.
The Parents then lodged a police complaint. The police had registered the case under Sections 363, 366 (a), 376 (2) (I) (j) of Indian Penal Code read with sub-sections 4, 6, 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The entire investigation was personally supervised by DCP (Crime) Rajan Kumar Sharma while arrest was made by API Sachin Lule, HC Battulal Pandey, Prakash Wankhede.

Spot is different ?

The spot where police performed Panchanama could be different as the police have recovered a Karate belt and cloths of the girl from another spot which is situated around 50 metres from the spot.
A team of Imambada Police Station on Friday evening noticed a yellow colour belt and cloths lying behind it. The police also noticed some imprints at the spot. This new development has given new clues to investigation who are probing all angles.

IGP Prasanna : The man who stopped Obama’s convoy

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha

It is situated at the confluence of five rivers -- Wainganga, Kanhan, Aam, Kolari and Murza. Just around a decade ago the river bank housing Ambhora used to see a flux of tourists from all over the State. However, the banks were submerged in water after the construction of Gosikhurd dam which led to rise in water levels. Since then, tourist flow at Ambhora has also declined.
