The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Tehsil police on Thursday arrested accused in the Sylark firing case from Amravati. “Accused Ramjan Shaha, a resident of Motibagh fled the city on Monday and was hiding at his relative’s house under the jurisdiction of Nagpuri Gate Police Station of Amravati,” informed Spokesperson of Nagpur City Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Detection) Ranjan Kumar Sharma. However, cops are yet to know about exact reason behind the firing. Meanwhile, victim Vivek Ratan Jain (42), a resident of TV Tower area, succumbed to bullet injuries on Thursday afternoon.
DCP Sharma further stated that the accused was taken to the city at 4 pm. If believe to the statement of accused Ramjan, the firing was unintentional. The trigger was accidentally pressed during fun.
Police Inspector of Tehsil Police Station S V Khandekar said that Ramjan is notorious goon. Body offences are registered against him at Lakadganj, Jaripatka and Tehisl Police Station against him. He was acquitted in two attempt to murder cases recently, he added.

PI Khandekar also informed that Vivek and Ramjan were working at Madira Bar and joined Skylark two months ago. They were good friends. “We have scanned all CCTV footage but did not find any brawl or objective things. Hence, exact reason behind the murder could not be ascertained,” said PI Khandekar.
On Monday at 11 pm, the musical show was going on the first floor of the hotel. The customers heard sound of firing and fled the spot. Vivek was taken to ground floor. A constable of Tehsil Police Station noticed large no of onlookers near the Hotel. He rushed Vivek to hospital, PI Khandekar added. Tehsil Police on Thursday added Section 302 of Indian Penal Code in the case.
