The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. GIVING thrust to strengthening people-police relation through social networking, the Nagpur City Police have distributed smartphones and tablets to all Senior Police Inspectors of City Police Stations, on Saturday. Getting real time intelligence of happenings from citizens is another goal of the system which is the brainchild of Commissioner of Police (CP) Sharda Prasad Yadav.
Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule distributed the gadgets to all Police Inspectors and applauded City Police for ensuring sense of security among the citizens. “Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is happy with functioning of Nagpur Police Commissionerate. You have developed a sense of security among the citizens,” said Bawankule while addressing the officers.
Bawankule further said that the novel initiative to connect people through WhatsApp would help put a check on crime in the city. The state government has approved funds for construction new police quarters along with repairing works of existing quarters.
“We are ensuring better environment for police so that they could give best results for the department,” Bawankule opined.
Six new police stations would come in the city to ease work pressure on policemen. “Kamptee and Hingna police stations including Jamtha stadium would come under the jurisdiction of Nagpur City Police Commissionerate in a month. Decision has been taken in this regard in a meeting held at Mumbai recently,” Bawankule further informed.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Sharda Prasad Yadav, Joint CP Rajvardhan, Addl CP Shrikant Tarwade, DCPs Ishu Sindhu, Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Abhinash Kumar, Vijay Pawar, Sanjay Latkar, Deepali Masirakar were present during the programme.
How it will works?
Senior Police Inspector (Sr. PI) of every police station would form WhatsApp groups of women, social activist, renowned persons etc. residing under jurisdiction of concern police station. The citizens can directly informed the Sr PI about happenings in their area. The Sr PI would also send scanned copy of First Investigation Report (FIR) to complainant through WhatsApp. You can directly ask Sr PI to become member of WhatsApp group or ask for FIR copy on WhatsApp. If any Police Inspector will deny citizens for their right, then citizens can directly complaint concern Zone DCP.

When asked about the man crunch in the city police, Bawankule said that Additional Chief Secretary (ACS Home) K P Bakshi has given approval for additional man power in Nagpur City. “ACS (Home) would take stern action against senior rank police officers who will not join duties at Nagpur after transfer orders,” he added.
